Tips for Students Using Blackboard Collaborate

Hello QCC Student,

Please click on your appointment link 5-10 minutes before it begins. Before your session, please make sure you:
  • are in an area where your WiFi signal is strong
  • enable the microphone on your computer. (Video is optional.)
  • are in a quiet area, so you and your tutor can hear each other
  • have converted your assignment and assignment instructions to PDF format
  • know which topics you want to cover in the session
  • have a notebook or Microsoft Word / Google Document open to write down valuable notes from the session
See the guidelines below for help with:

CONNECTION ISSUES
As with any online session, there are many reasons a session might be dropped: connection problems, server issues, hardware issue, etc.
If your computer screen keeps freezing, try turning off your video camera by clicking the camera icon at the bottom of the screen. You can still use your microphone.
In the event that your tutor is disconnected in the middle of your session, kindly stay on the session link, and wait for your tutor to reconnect.
In the event that you get disconnected, your tutor will remain in the session until the scheduled end time, so please try your best to reconnect.
If your microphone and/or video features are not working:
  • Use the "Chat" option on the bottom-right of the screen on Blackboard Collaborate
  • Use the "Raise Hand" option next to the microphone and video features

  • Choose the new screenshot to upload to BB Collaborate

Windows Users:
  • Press "Shift + PrtScn"
  • Everything currently visible will be saved as a temporary image
  • Open MS Paint
  • Paste Image onto Paint, and save.
  • Go to Blackboard Collaborate
  • Click the "Share Content" option on the bottom-right of the screen
  • Click on "Add Files"
  • Choose the new screenshot to upload to BB Collaborate

EMAILING PHOTOS OF PAPER DOCUMENTS
If you want to share a printed document that you cannot convert to an electronic file, you can:
  • Take a clear picture of the document with your phone
  • Email the picture to yourself
  • Open your email and download/save the picture onto your computer
  • Upload it to "Share Content" → "Share Files" on Blackboard Collaborate
  • Consider downloading the phone application PDF Element to automatically convert your picture to a PDF
