After
each tutoring session,
WritingCenter
tutors complete a two-sided Tutor Log, indicating topics covered with the
student. Unless a student requests that we keep the log private, we will send
you a copy through interoffice mail so you know your students attended the
CampusWritingCenter.
THE FRONT OF THE LOG
The
tutor will check the box in the right hand corner to indicate if the
student was a Walk In, which means an appointment was not made
beforehand. Sometimes, if multiple students would like to work on
the same assignment, they could be tutored as a Paired/Group. The
Referrals section above is only used when you refer students using
the Starfish database; your comments about particular areas to
improve upon will show up here.
Every Tutor Log will specify whether the
student brought the assignment guidelines to the tutoring session
(assignment sheet, syllabus, etc). It is always preferable for the
student to present the original assignment from the instructor, so
the tutor knows exactly what the professor expects.
Next, the tutor writes a brief
description of the assignment followed by the areas in which the
student wanted to focus (such as thesis statement, outline, and
introduction paragraph).
The
tutor is expected to discuss the student-centered strategies that
were used during the session. Some examples may include Having the
student read the paper aloud or Reviewing comma splice worksheet
together.
Finally,
the tutor will discuss what the student was able to complete during
the session. Sometimes, while the student may not have developed
much written content during the session, she or he will have
accomplished a greater understanding of the assignment or a clearer
idea of the professor's expectations.
THE
BACK OF THE
LOG
A
tutor will check as many boxes that apply to the session.
These sections pertain to what kind of
assignment was discussed, if a CWC laptop was used, and which skills
were emphasized.
Lastly,
the tutor will check as many boxes that apply to the specific skills
that were used during the session, as well as what the student
accomplished. The boxes provide the specifics that both the
professor and the CWC use to narrow down how time in each session is
being
utilized.
