f there is one thing to learn about success at a postsecondary institution, it’s recognizing that there is really no time to rest on the laurels of past accomplishments. Intelligent program design is proactive, not reactive; and designing ahead means seeding for the future, now.
A major area of exploration for the Campus Writing Center this coming year will
involve the utilization of wikis, both as a vehicle for providing tutor training,
and as a student application. Wikis are software applications which allow multiple
authors to collaborate on a single document. It is a fascinating tool for exploring
the possibilities of collaborative research projects and other project-based
learning experiences. In June of 2007, CWC will inaugurate a pilot Wiki Institute
amongst Writing Center tutors, who will learn how to use a Blackboard-based wiki
application, and create the foundation for the first CWC tutor wiki. We will
be inviting Academy Learning Center tutors and College Discovery tutors to join
us in the preliminary training in June, after which they may wish to design wikis
of their own.
